The ISP South Sarawak Branch successfully organised the Kursus Kawalan Tikus di Ladang Sawit on 29 October 2025 at Ramp Sawit Kaya, Kampung Rukam, Biawak, Lundu. The programme, which was offered free of charge with limited slots, received an encouraging response from plantation smallholders, field workers, and local community members. The event was supported by Sawit Kaya as the main sponsor, alongside MPOB, SD Guthrie, and Agri Bio.
The half-day session focused on enhancing practical knowledge and strengthening field-level skills in effective rodent management within oil palm plantations. Officers from MPOB delivered an in-depth session on identifying early symptoms of rat infestation, understanding pest behaviour, and applying scientifically proven control techniques. Their presentation also included important insights into crop damage patterns and the impact of rodent activity on overall plantation productivity.
In addition, SD Guthrie Agri-Bio conducted a sharing session on practical rodent control methods used in Malaysian estates, featuring a blend of biological, environmental, and field-based strategies. The programme continued with another MPOB-led session on fresh fruit bunch (FFB) grading, emphasising the importance of selecting only ripe and fresh fruits to ensure optimal oil extraction and maintain high product quality.
To conclude the event, participants were treated to a lucky draw session, creating an enjoyable and engaging atmosphere while acknowledging the strong support from the local plantation community. Overall, the training succeeded in raising awareness about systematic rodent management and reinforcing best practices that directly contribute to yield improvement and sustainable field operations.
