As Malaysia commemorates Independence Month, God\u2019s Little Acre in Batu Gajah, Perak<\/strong> stands as a powerful reminder of the courage and sacrifice of planters during the Malayan Emergency (1948\u20131960). The site honours planters, estate staff, police personnel and civilians who lost their lives during one of the most challenging periods in Malaya\u2019s history.<\/p>\n

The annual memorial service, organised by the Malaysian Palm Oil Association (MPOA)<\/strong>, brings together members of the plantation industry, police personnel and delegates to pay tribute to these fallen heroes. Among those present were representatives from MPOA<\/strong>, United Plantations<\/strong> and The Incorporated Society of Planters (ISP)<\/strong>, including Dr. Ramesh Veloo, FISP, Chief Executive of ISP<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

During the Emergency, plantations were not only centres of agricultural production but also became frontline communities facing threats, sabotage and violence. Planters were required to take on responsibilities beyond estate management, serving as community leaders, crisis managers and protectors while ensuring the welfare of workers and continuity of operations.<\/p>\n

The legacy of God\u2019s Little Acre continues to remind today\u2019s generation of planters that the profession is built not only on agricultural excellence and economic contribution, but also on leadership, resilience, integrity and service. Preserving this history ensures that the sacrifices of those who came before continue to inspire future generations of the plantation community.<\/p>\n\n\n
